It's 0725hrs as the Adelaide bound overnight Overland passenger train from Melbourne hauled by V/Line EMD unit N453 is about to enter Shepherds Hill road tunnel near Eden Hills.
At this time both up and down tracks were broad gauge, but with impending standardisation of the 'Up' track the 'Down' track would remain broad gauge and be used exclusively by TransAdelaide railcars to and from Belair.
Workers can be seen preparing the 'Down' track at this location for installation of a passing loop for the railcars on what will operationally soon become a 'single track' operation.
The standard gauge track was opened in May 1995.
