514 Gillman Yard

Gillman Yard in Port Adelaide was largely the preserve of the larger 800 class English Electric shunters, but a couple of the smaller 500hp 500 class, usually 514/515 were also usually to be found there.

On 26 April 1989, 514 shunts a short rake of tarped open wagons, probably loaded with fertiliser from the plant a short distance away.

The 34 members of the 500 class were built between 1964 and 1969 at the South Australian Railways Islington Works and fitted with English Electric 4SRKT engines. Only two remain in regular use.
