Nikon 80-400 VR2 Compare
Comparing the new Nikon 80-400 VR2 with the 70-200 2.8 VR2 with TC2.0 III at 400mm. And with the 70-200 VR2 without TC at 200mm.

Camera is Nikon D800E.

The comparable speed of focus on the new 80-400 begs the question whether this might be a better lens to have in one's bag than the 70-200 VR2 2.8 with another lens for 400mm+. It covers a wider range on its own - but is it as good at say 80-200. Not sure it would work well with a TC - unless only 1.3 or 1.6..

I haven't checked edge sharpness either and with only f5.6 it may be slightly less reliable in focusing in 3D mode with fast moving subjects... Nonetheless, it is miles better than the 80-400 VR1 that it replaces. But it should be at its crazy pro-level price tag.
