Silvery Blue Butterfly (Glaucopsyche lygdamus), larva attended by ants

Found in Polk Co, OR. Eating into a Kincaid's Lupine (Lupinus sulphureus kincaidii) seedpod so it can devour the seeds. The ants protect the larvae from predators in exchange for honeydew. These larva seem to eat quite a bit of the seeds and flowers of the Kincaid's Lupine, probably making this species a major competetor with the endangered Fender's Blue Butterflies.
