Castilleja minor (A. Gray) A. Gray var. exilis (A. Nelson) J.M. Egger
This is by far the most widely distributed of the four varieties of Castilleja minor, occuring throughout much of the Intermountain West, from the east slopes of the Sierras and Cascades eastward to the Rocky Mountains and norhtward into southern Canada and southward into northern New Mexico and Arizona, where it is essentially parapatric with the nominate var. minor, which ranges to the south.
