This photo was taken from below Coit Tower / Telegraph Hill (on the wharf side) on Earth Day April 22, 2009. There were choppy waters on San Francisco Bay. Alcatraz Prison is in the background. Angel Island is on the left. Pier 39 stores and restaurants are on the left. Boats docked at the Pier 39 boat harbor are in the foreground. Pier 35 is on the bottom right side. What a wonderful San Francisco Bay scene!
If this photo is chosen for the 7x7 magazine I have the largest size available (3043 x 2282). I have added this to the Flickr group: 7x7 Magazine - SF Neighborhoods - Get Published! group www.flickr.com/groups/7x7hoods/ Neighborhood location: Telegraph Hill / North Beach category.

Added on May 24, 2009 there is a new book out: "Alcatraz The Gangster Years and a link
Quote from the book review article: "Setting up a seemingly impregnable fortress prison for the biggest and baddest of America's criminal elite seemed just the ticket if the government was to be seen as forceful in its war on crime. As it turned out, it probably wasn't actually impossible to escape from the Rock, but the choppy, chilly waters of San Francisco Bay were a pretty good obstacle."
