The Doors Are Open

An Afghan child peers around a door as U.S Marines conduct a route assessment near Helmand River Valley in Nawa-I-Barakzayi District, Afghanistan, April 27, 2012. Route assessments allow International Security Assistance Forces to determine the capabilities of significant roads in the region.

The caption could be: What do I do now? The problem I see is that the child appears to be somewhat elusive. The doors are big enough to hide a good sized vehicle and numerous weapons. The fear shown in her eyes is not that of a child meeting a stranger, but more one of a person with something to hide. The innocense of a child is not always innocent. In some countries children of this age are taught to fight and mis-lead. I don't trust her and would make this a space of suspicion.
