F-35B takes its 100th flight

On March 7, 2011, the first F-35B Joint Strike

Fighter test aircraft (BF-1) completed its 100th flight with BAE test

pilot Peter Wilson at the controls. BF-1 flew in short take-off,

vertical landing (STOVL) mode to continue expansion of the STOVL flight

envelope to demonstrate design durability and in preparation for

shipboard testing scheduled for later this year. The F-35B is the first

JSF variant with two aircraft completing 100 flights and will be the

first stealth fighter for the U.S. Marine Corps and is undergoing test

and evaluation at NAS Patuxent River. Photo courtesy Lockheed Martin.

Who cares of the look. Why not focus on the firepower or maneuverability in combat? Plus the durability as well. Looks aside, it might become a savage rabid beast.

    its like an upgraded F-22
  • CoreDevil 4y

Yeah it looks like a knock off of the F-22 Raptor but who knows? It might be one of the best JSF's the Core has ever had...

To viper. When I went to Nellis AFB i was informed that it would have alot more upgrades with the electronics but not the speed or manuverability like the Raptor

the Corp requested a fighter with short takeoff vertical landing capabilities, and, the USMC's mission is not air superiority, its combat support. The Rapter is an air superiority oriented fighter.

My bro builds these, the uglier the deadlier!

I think it's pretty awesome-looking....but can it replace the F-22? I think not. Thanks a lot, Robert Gates.

mint3fr3sh Fortunately replacing the F-22 is not at all why this plane is being built. It's going to replace F/A-18's, AV-8B's, F-16's, and all kinds of other stuff in other countries. It's mission is more attack oriented.
