This spider has been living on my living-room window for over a week now – I looked it up, and it is a female araneus diadematus or cross spider (sometimes just called a garden spider).

Everyday we watch it catch moths and other night-time insects in its giant orb web.

Tonight, it was courted by a male of the species, who ran repeatedly onto the female's web shaking the strands, probably in an effort to excite the female. It did not appear to have much luck.
