20 years after the Chernobyl disaster
The gymnasium of the school number one in the abandoned city of Pripyat, Ukraine, on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Pripyat was a city of 50.000 inhabitants, mostly workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and their families. Two days after the accident the soviet government evacuated the city promising that they will be able to return to their homes soon. Since 1986 Pripyat has been a ghost city, and their former inhabitants were placed in other cities. After 20 years most of the problems persist: illnesses, contamination, increase of birth defects, and the solution is still far from being reached.
