Green Impact Zone Rain Garden Installation - Troostwood Neighborhood (May 8, 2010)
The Green Impact Zone saw the installation of its first neighborhood rain garden on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Troostwood Commons (4901 Volker Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.). Green Impact Zone staff partnered with Keep Kansas City Beautiful, Bridging the Gap and the Troostwood Neighborhood Association to organize the workshop and installation. About 30 volunteers participated in the event.

Rain gardens not only beautify neighborhoods; they also help absorb stormwater runoff. After a heavy rain, stormwater that isn't absorbed into the ground can damage foundations and sidewalks. And as stormwater rushes down streets, it picks up oil, pesticides and other contaminants that end up in our rivers and streams.
