trappings - installation view

    Newer Older

Mixed media on wooden rat traps.
This was a commissioned installation I did for inside a friend's home. It is made up of 12 rat traps with some of the hardware removed. I often comment on the trappings of wealth in my work. I particularly like to focus on the futile, ridiculous pursuit of trying to look rich.

Such a lovely idea Marc. I agree 100%. It's like an expansion on the "fashion brands gone wild" post-it series I also adore. I expanded on that series by the way, I will be scanning them soon.

I love all of these. I take exception to the eyebrows in a bowl though. Women have tweezed their eyebrows since the Egyptians. Besides, have you ever gazed lovingly into the eyes of someone with huge unruly bushes over their eyes? Frightening. I know. I look in the mirror often.

      This is so fabulous.
I can't decide which is my favorite.. and that means they're not just great as a series, but they stand on their own, as well.
      Great work.

Thanks so much for all the comments, friends!
It is indeed along the same lines as the "fashion brands gone wild". I love exploring our obsession with luxury brands, perfection, self-improvement, bling, and all that. By the way, I'm not saying that striving for white teeth, plucked eyebrows, green grass and all that is bad. Heck, I'd love some luxury mac & cheese right about now. I'm just questioning the amount of energy we devote to it, the extent we are willing to go... and how futile it can be.

Exactly. The series is very strong conceptually.
