Manila from the air, Lumix GX1

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. Its total population is of about 12 million people.

The earliest written account of the city dates to the 10th century, and it mentions it as a Malay kingdom. Eventually it was invaded by the Sultan of brunei. By the 15th century it was Islamized, until the Spanish conquistadors arrived. It thgen became the centre of Spanish activity in the Far east, and one end of the Acapulco-Manila Galleon trade route linking Europe, Latin America and Asia.
