bridge and blooms
Raise your hand if you're ready for Spring.
It's not that I don't like winter. I do. Better, even, than summer (most things about it, anyway). No, it's not that. Rather, it's that I love (lovelovelove) Spring. Especially here, in Portland. SO many flowers and plants in bloom. Anyone from the Midwest can tell you that this climate is particularly amazing in its ability to grow such a wide variety of budding and blooming things. Those of you who have been here your entire lives may take it for granted. In Iowa, Spring struggles up through the dead brown grass, gaining purchase over Winter one tiny flower at a time. Here, however, Spring BURSTS onto the scene. It frolics (yes, Spring frolics) through the city parks, gallops down the streets and touches down in a tornado of hazy pinks, brilliant yellows and smoky purples.
It makes my heart race, all that frolicking. :-)
This was taken last year, during a walk down to Waterfront Park with a borrowed Rolleiflex. Once the cherry trees along the river start blooming, you'll be hard pressed to find me anywhere else in my spare time.
