Giara's horses (Is cuaddeddus), Sardinia

In a beautiful park in the center-southern part of Sardinia lives wild ponies . The area is, in fact, the habitat for the only herd of wild horses, better known as "small horse of the Giara" in existence in Italy and Europe. They are the last surviving horses of a breed which used to populate the entire island.

They are small (about 120 cm. at the shoulders), dark brown, very hardy, with almond-shaped eyes and a long mane.

The origin of these little horses is uncertain, they were probably imported by the far East, what is sure is that they live on the upland from time immemorial.

Thank you for you comment :)
