I organized a bunch of hackers from around the world to go to China to hack education.

It took 6 weeks of organizing. But it paid off! Tsinghua University (considered the best in China) is now officially starting a Hackers In Residence Program. Beginning the beginning of 2014, there will be a constant stream of diverse hackers from around the world staying at Tsinghua to mentor students!

Towards the end of our stay, we gave students a small taste of what's to come with our Kung Fu Hacking event: After an intro talk, the audience was asked to engage in a challenge: given a handful of parts (including: Red LED, Green LED, a ping pong ball, small motor, some string, and no battery), make a yellow light blink at the front of the room 3 times. You can see from the photos how fun and engaging it was for all involved.

The culmination of our trip was a Hackers In Residence Kickoff event at Tsinghua University, complete with a mongo Hackers In Residence Kick-off Event
Including a mongo LED display showing a hacked version of the "Kung Fu Fighting" music video.

The Hackers In Residence is now an official, for-credit, ongoing program at Tsinghua, hopefully to spread all over China, and hopefully everywhere.

We also visited Shanghai for Maker Carnival, my manufacturer in Shanghai, XinCheJian hackerspace in Shanghai, HAXLR8R accelerator program in Shenzhen (where I'm a mentor), Chaihuo hackerspace in Shenzhen, and many other cool events and places.
