First photo taken in Transdniestr
The wonky angle reflects caginess about taking photos in the street. Caginess about taking photos in Tiraspol reflects the trouble we had getting into Transdniestr (getting out turned out to be even more unpleasant), which left me a little paranoid about my phone being confiscated. But when I saw a poster with Che Guevara and Vlad Putin side by side I couldn't resist.
I've since found out that there is an extreme-right political movement in Transdniestr called Proriv that venerates Che Guevara. You can read about it here: www.crji.org/articles.php?id=4095&hi=proriv
Looking at the photo again after reading the article, this would appear to be the Proriv HQ (you might just be able to make out their name in Cyrillic on the yellow borders above the window frames). So I was probably right to be cagy about taking the photo ...
