Vigil for Healthcare Reform
Sept 2, 2009.

A candlelight vigil at Columbus Circle in New York City to push for healthcare reform. The event drew about 400 people.

To dramatize the need for reform, speakers told their healthcare horror stories. One young man had to have open heart surgery at 26. A white-coated pediatrician said he became politicized when he treated a boy with a massive stroke--his mother revealed that he'd had a smaller stroke years earlier, but that she couldn't afford specialty care at the time because she was uninsured.

The New York vigil of approximately 350 such gatherings around the U.S. that night.
