Jews of the Fillmore, Opening Celebration (July 19, 2009)
The opening celebration for Jews of the Fillmore, the Magnes’ current exhibition in collaboration with the Jazz Heritage Center and the Koret Foundation, was an overwhelming success with upwards of 300 attendees.

Many who attended the event had grown up in the Fillmore, and the evening was filled with stories and discussions recollecting memories of the old Jewish neighborhood, creating a warm, community-oriented atmosphere.

The celebration began with appetizers and live jazz in the Jazz Heritage Center’s Koret Heritage Lobby. Guests then progressed to Yoshi’s Jazz Club for welcoming remarks and an outstanding performance by John Schott’s Typical Orchestra. A wine reception in the Jazz Heritage Center’s Lush Life Gallery concluded the evening.
