"Red is London's colour"* Pillar boxes, phone boxes, buses, the tiles of Roman London and soldiers uniforms are all red. Red was used on old maps to mark areas where the wealthy lived. Cockney slang for gold is 'red'. On plague houses red crosses were painted.
