Victoria Wood visits MAG Lao IMG_0834
During filming of a BBC appeal for MAG, Victoria Wood saw for herself the charity's vital work clearing UXO (unexploded ordnance) in Lao PDR. She visited a foundry in Phonsavan, Xieng Khouang province, where MAG has made safe or destroyed over 85,000 items of live UXO. There had already been one death from UXO at the foundry, and had one item of UXO exploded, it could have caused a chain reaction that would have been a catastrophe for the foundry and the surrounding houses.
Thousands of items of safe UXO can still be seen within and surrounding the foundry - including this cluster submunition.
