F-117A Nighthawk (2)

The point of so-called 'Stealth technology' is reducing the aircraft's visibility to enemy sensors. The F-117 is shaped to deflect incoming radar away from the original transmitter. At the time the aircraft was developed, the computer programs used by the designers could only predict how radar was reflected from flat surfaces, which is why the F-117 has a faceted or chiseled look. Another method of reducing the aircraft's visibility to radar was using radar-absorbing material on the airframe.
