Ode to Sweet Lavender
I love lavender. I love the scent of it. I love growing it. I love running my fingers through the plant to release its intoxicating fragrance onto my hands. I love the gorgeous mauve colour of it. I love seeing the beautiful purple fields of lavender farms. I love that it thrives so well in small pots in my little balcony garden (where the winds and heat and temperature extremes can be very harsh). I love how it invites the bees and hoverflies to find my garden way up here. I love picking stems of it and laying them about the house to enjoy the scent in different rooms. I love drying it and making little sachets for the winter. I love dropping lavender oil into a relaxing bath. I love sipping hot lavender tea with honey on cool days and having iced lavender tea on hot summer days. I love nibbling on lavender shortbread cookies and savouring spoonfuls of lavender ice cream. I love the flavour of lavender honey. I love adding dried lavender to my homemade mixture of "Herbs de Provence" and slathering it on a roast chicken. I love, love, love, lavender.
This Munstead lavender grows in pots in my balcony garden. It's just starting to come into bloom.
