Cathederal House Hotel
This is the Cathederal House Hotel in Glasgow. A great looking, castle style hotel overlooking Glasgow's famous "City of the Dead" - The Necropolis, and right Beside Glasgow Cathederal and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. It was originally Built in 1877 as a hostel to house newly released inmates from the Duke Street women's prison, in whose grounds it stands. The prison was demolished in 1958. During it's time the prison had 12 Hangings and has the distinction of being the place where Scotland's last woman was hung. Susan Newell was executed in October 1923 after being found guilty of strangling a paper boy, John Johnston, who would not give her an evening paper without the money. The testimony of her daughter Janet, eight, - who told how her mother wheeled the boy's body through the streets on a pram - helped seal the conviction.
