A dominant, mature Whitetail Buck in the latter stages of velvet antler development, late Summer.
I am an 'old school' guy, and I refer to these magnificent animals as Whitetails - just as it was when I was growing up, and just as most outdoorsman still do today. North American Whitetail magazine and Whitetail Institute of North America are 2 prime examples. I see so much reference these days to white-tailed deer, I don't get it. Where did that come from in the last decade? To me they are and always will be Whitetails and I will never change the way I spell it or say it. But as the old saying goes, to each his own. Sometimes you just can't/won't teach an old dog new tricks.
Hell, before you know it, cottontail rabbits will become cotton-tailed rabbits!
