THE STARE part 1
Whitetail Buck In Velvet - Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.
I've always been fascinated with those gnarly bumps at the base of a Buck's antlers, so when I had the opportunity the other morning to get a close-up shot of them, I took it. These bumps become very reduced in size once the velvet comes off, and occasionally one will grow big enough to become a sticker point (not a kicker point, there is a difference).
Sticker point: a point that grows out from the burr or the main beam of an antler.
Kicker point: a point branching off from an antler tine (e.g. G-1, G-2, G-3, etc.)
HDR -- 3 brackets from a single RAW (-2 | 0 | +2) merged and lightly tone mapped, no crop.
