This will probably always be one of my favourite portraits.
I met Donald a while back. I went to Brighton one day for some street photography, it was unusually terrible, I was strugging to lift the camera and really wasn't feeling it so I came home early. I arrived in Eastbourne and when I got off the bus I saw this person sitting on the floor with his jacket covering his whole body, even his face, it could have been a dead body if it wasn't right in the town center. People just kept on walking past as usual but I felt I had to see if the person was alright. The body moved and a face appeared- Donald. What a character he was, we chatted for ages and he let me take his photo.
Everytime I saw him after that we would talk and always shook hands. Id even class him as a friend. I showed him the photo I took when I had it printed and he loved it, he said he looked old but I told him the processing enhances the detail which is true. Since the photo was taken a talented artist contacted me about using the portrait for a stencil to use as art. The artwork with Donalds face has since been put up in the streets of places such as Paris and Columbia which is very cool.
Sadly recently I was on my way to town when a homeless guy stopped me to tell me Donald had passed away. It was a really sad day, he didn't have anyone to even go to his funeral but I feel happy in the fact of knowing that Donalds face will live on forever, all over the world.
Here is a small selection of my work, from, from October 2011 I shall be uploading one photo from every shoot. The full sets from each shoot can be found on my website- WWW.IMBOURNE.COM on the blog. In this gallery I've also included a few of my old faves, we can have it too empty to start with can we!
