EPA Superfund

This is one of my favorite photos of 2010. It's color. It's digital. It's hand held... Taken inside one of the only EPA superfund sites in Iowa. This factory used to make DDT and was helping to feed the residents of Des Moines thrichloroethylene. DIco Corp used to degrease their machinery with TCE and found it convenient to spread the resulting sludge around the property to control dust and weeds. It just so happens the Raccoon River is about 300 feet behind the factory.
