Chevas Necklace CHEV001
~My profile description links to a version of this necklace on etsy.~
This necklace was made for my dear friend Chevas. The ammonite pendant represents the once abundant ammonites that filled the oceans during the prehistoric age. During the same calamity which killed the dinosaurs, the ammonites lost their primary food supply and their numbers depleted to extinction. Though their time has gone, a piece of them remains.
Some of their shells shimmer, called ammolite--with fiery flashes of reds, greens, even blues and purples. Other pieces show the layers within the ammonite's shell, like mystic swirls.
Many shells have a deep red sheen, which I complimented with the wine colored garnet, almost as dark as blood. Hessonite, a stone from the garnet family, comes in shades of dark brown, honey, golden amber, and light tans. This gradient effect adds a certain balance to the harmony of the ammonite shell. The hematite was added to give breaks between the colors for moments of silence.
Like my friend Chevas, I hope these necklaces gain a second life.
