Live Notation is an investigation drawing upon the two fields of live art and live coding. Live art has its origins in the 'happenings' of the 60s and 70s, where an artist presents their ideas through bodily action in front of an audience. Live coding is a developing practice, where artists program computers during a performance, in order to generate live music or video animation. Live artists use the medium of the body, and live coders use abstract symbols, and this performance will be a high-risk investigation into how something new might arise from bringing these two approaches together.

Live Notation is a collaboration between Hester Reeve at C3RI, Sheffield Hallam University and Alex McLean in the Department of Computer Science, the University of Sheffield. The project is funded by the AHRC.
