Today's Shot of Laura Brought to You By Free Association
Two rolls of medium format film waiting for me at the lab as I type this, shots taken over the last two months, shots I've more or less forgotten about.
Which speaks to how my shooting process has changed since using digital. The Mamiya only comes out on special occasions within a shoot, now. When I see a "good shot" and know the Mamiya would be perfect to capture it.
Which should mean nothing but winners waiting for me at the lab, yeah?
No way I just jinxed it. Nah.
This shot of Laura was taken using that new...philosophy?
I'd already taken dozens of shots of her with the digital, knew, KNEW this was gonna be a good medium format shot.
For all the challenges of switching between several camera formats, it's a blast being able to toggle between the Polaroid, the Mamiya and the Canon. Expanding horizons and whatnot.
Being able to tell the story using different voices, that's what it's like.
It's early, that's all I got!
Okay, okay. Um, Laura's taken on a special spot in my photo-taking. For awhile we were shooting every week, but now we gots work keeping us busy, so I don't get to shoot her every day, like I would like. So I set up shoots with other folks.
Which makes shooting her special, because I always know, no matter how rickety another shoot goes, if I can get her in front of my camera, I can make some magic.
She's like that part of a videogame you know you can go back to and power up, like if you've just been mauled by a dragon or shot up by thugs*.
*"shot up by thugs brought to you by last night's dream where I was The Punisher on his first mission. I used my shotgun a lot.
