Central Theatre

    Newer Older

The Central is just off US-50 in downtown Ely. Still a single-screener, this somewhat art-deco theatre has been around since the 30's, and still shows first run movies. It's listed capacity is 700, but I doubt they ever get a crowd that large anymore.

While the tall "CENTRAL" still lights up in nice green neon, the rest of the marquee has lost it's neon. Judging by all the socket holes in it, it must have been rather elaborate in it's time.

Still though, nice to see an unmolested theatre, and some neon still being used.

Great shot, and all the better for having that particular text on the marquee.

I love the doors, and I treasure any cinema theatre that's not a 'plex.
