Great Central Railway Swithland Leicestershire 7th July 2012
Swithland's Down Starter is drooping in classic GWR style and just in sight round the bend the Section signal is also off. In addition to the steam locos working this "Postman Pat" weekend, visiting Class 33 Crompton diesel 33002 Sea King in Dutch livery was also in action. However in this shot it is not quite "in action" because it is held at Swithland's Up Home signal while we - with the returning 11.10 TPO train - move from the Up Main to the Down Main via the crossover.
The Travelling Post Office now consists of 5 carriages and looks very smart as seen here (we are the third run on the video) :- www.youtube.com/watch?v=79gtD1nO6NY.
This was the first time I had been involved in any complex movements across the recently commissioned Swithland Signalling although it was made more complex by a signal failure that meant we couldn't pull into the Up Loop and had to leave the stock on the Main & run round via Rothley station. This was the reason the 33 was delayed, normally our train would have been safely in the loop allowing it to pass before we did our manoeuvre.
