The East Riding Doncaster South Yorkshire 14th April 2012

On home territory again!

The East Riding steam railtour headed by British Railways Standard Pacific 70013 Oliver Cromwell is signalled right at Marshgate Junction Doncaster from the East Coast Main Line Down Fast onto the Great Central (ex-MSLR) Railway line to Thorne Junction. The tour then took the ex-North Eastern Railway route through Thorne North, Goole, Hull, Driffield & Bridlington to Scarborough. In the distance a Class 66 freight is being held at signals on the Up Main to let us pass.

The Great Central line through Thorne was a familiar Britannia stamping ground in the early 1960s when a group of Brits (but not Cromwell) were shedded at Immingham.
