Blea Moor North Yorkshire 4th February 2012

Our trip from York to Carnforth a day earlier had been in cold winter weather but with bright sunshire & blue skies. This could not be said of the trip over the Settle & Carlisle! It was still cold but there was not a lot of colour to be had in the Yorkshire Dales.

Here Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 is just pulling off Ribblehead viaduct into Blea Moor with the Cumbrian Mountain Express in driving snow & sleet. We were observing the 20mph slack over the viaduct but the engine was still working hard on the last few miles of the 1 in 100 Long Drag.

Best seen large on black.
