Guide Bridge Manchester 12th August 2011

They always say you should never go back but I did with the Scarborough Flyer railtour & 70013 Oliver Cromwell. To say Guide Bridge has changed since my last visit in 1969 is something of an understatement.

I was surprised to see the Woodhead Route OHLE still in situ on the totally abandoned side of the former Great Central Railway main line station considering through trains to Sheffield finished in 1981. Not so surprising was the uncontrolled growth of Buddleia and other weeds as Network Rail/Northern do their best to make the railway as unattractive to the travelling public as possible.

Today it is served by local Northern Rail 25kV electric services to Hadfield & Glossop and dmus to Rose Hill Marple plus the pathetic Fridays only one way dmu train to Stalybridge.
