Carnforth Lancashire 9th June 1968

A bevy of British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-19-0s, 92077 & 92118 behind in the withdrawn lines at the north end of Carnforth shed. A third 9F just gets its deflectors in shot too.

Bachmann have brought out a "weathered look" OO gauge model of 92077 but its unlikely to look as weathered as this. 92118 was the engine that I rode from Heaton Mersey to Newton Heath in May 1968 but it's not destined to turn another wheel in service. Sadly both are waiting for their last journey to the scrap merchant.

Both only 12 years old, 92077 went to Campbell's of Aidrie being scrapped in October 1968 while 92118 ended its days at Ward's yard at Beighton near Sheffield in September 1968.
