Derby Station Spring 1969
Little did I know when I took this shot in the rain that Peak diesel 99 3rd Carabinier would be preserved nearly 30 years later. My Sheffield-Birmingham train stopped briefly at Derby & I jumped out to record the motive power up front.
Built at Crewe in 1961 it is preserved in its later guise as 45135 at the `East Lancs Railway at Bury, Lancashire by the Pionier Diesel Group. I think it looks much more distinctive like this with split headcode boxes.
1M = Express train on the London Midland Region, 38 = the specific working, probably NE-SW Newcastle-Plymouth??
Derby station still had semaphores & if the wisps of steam are anything to go by 99 still has a steam heating boiler. Note the old Midland Railway station building behind the parcels BRUTES on platform1, now demolished.
