Great Central Railway Rothley Leicestershire 26th July 2009
As we were held in the Up sidings at Rothley for 25 minutes before our minerals train was brought up from Loughborough I had another quick chance to record the event.
For the TPO run I had built an even but not a particularly big fire because despite the burst of speed through Quorn we then coasted to Rothley and I knew we would be hanging around for a while - blowing off in the siding is frowned upon. I closed the dampers and let the fire dim down as we sat, occasionally putting a few rounds on to stop it going out! The empty minerals train working (did anyone count the number of 16-tonners we had on?) was tender first non-stop but didn't need a big fire either, especially as we were straight on shed for disposal after arrival at Loughborough. Another 10 hour shift done.
