Tyseley Birmingham 4th May 1969
LMS Stanier 4-6-0 Black 5 45428 pauses on the coal bank at Tyseley Great Western depot.
5428 was built in 1937 by Armstrong Whitworth at Newcastle, Based at Leeds Holbeck shed the locomotive hauled the last steam worked London bound express from Bradford to Leeds on I October 1967 and was withdrawn a week later when steam traction was abandoned in the northeastern area.
Purchased directly from British Railways at Holbeck by Brian Hollingsworth in 1967, it steamed to Tyseley (before the infamous BR ban) and remained there until 5th November 1973. The locomotive was named 'Eric Treacy,' at Tyseley in 1969, as a tribute to the former Bishop of Wakefield, an eminent railway photographer.
45428 is currently based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
