Another two survivors of the last days of steam on the Southern Region, SR Bullied Merchant Navy Pacific 35030 Elder-Dempster Line (withdrawn in July 1967) & West Country Pacific 34017 Ilfacombe, minus tenders await cutting. The remains of another, unidentified, Bulleid Pacific stands in front of 35030 (probably 35008 Orient Line as it is shown in the same location complete & smokebox to smokebox with 35030 in a photo published in the book "Steam for Scrap").
34017 had the dubious distinction of being the last of all the Bulleid Pacifics to be cut up in December 1968.
On the last day of the Great Central Railway as a through route on 3rd September 1966 35030 pulled a special train from London to Nottingham. September 2006 was 40 years since that last train and the GCR www.gcrailway.co.uk/ at Loughborough planned a weekend to mark it. 35005 was renumbered to represent this engine.
