Cheltenham Lansdown Gloucestershire 1st January 1975

Departing south from Cheltenham Lansdown station, Peak diesel 46009 heads the Plymouth train past the junction with the now closed (except the preserved section) GWR Stratford to Cheltenham line. The brick-built WWII signal box also controlled the cross-country M&LSWJ line to Swindon which used to curve off to the left past the bridge.

The four tracked section from here was joint GWR and Midland/LMS and the mileposts showed both miles from London Paddington and Derby the southbound lines being Up for the GWR and Down for the LMS.
