Two of One Hundred

This is a man I met in Washington, DC on the National Mall. We met when he was selling newspapers as part of some sort of veterans association. I talked to him for a while about his military service, which I found really interesting. The photo was taken last summer, and thinking back on it we had an interesting discussion. I can't really remember a whole lot now. I think at the end of the day when I shoot I'll take notes on the strangers I meet.

It's a nice portrait of a good-looking fellow. The light is nice and so is his expression. Too bad his name and details are lost in the mists of time. If I didn't take notes and didn't write up my enounters soon after, I'd be at a real loss. :-)

Jeff Bowen I like the portrait, but I think having details would make it a lot better. I waited a while before editing and even longer before publishing, to try and escape that initial excitement that comes from taking the shot. I also need to evaluate my photos from the perspective of someone who doesn't have any sense of the conversation that occurred.

He has such a worldly, friendly, everyman look to him. He could be from just about any country. I chose his image for my private notes as a "character" I could make a pretend story about so when I'm recording myself giving a class, I'm speaking to his face. So thank you for capturing the image of my imaginary ESL student best friend :)
