This was absolutely normal. The closed Kai Tak Airport was built in 1922 long before Hong Kong was developed into such overcrowd city; the city just grow around the airport for 70 years afterwards. In this photo the plane was just hundreds feet above ground. Though Kai Tak was closed at 1998 and these amazing moment is history forever.

Compared to Kai Tak, the current landing is so boring. I really enjoyed landing in HK back then, although it was sometimes a bit scary.

Beautifully framed shot. Our airport in San Diego, California is similar to this, but on a much smaller scale. It was built in the earliest days of aviation (in fact, it's the airport Charles Lindbergh took off from originally, on his way to his first trans-Atlantic flight - the Spirit of St. Louis was built here - but I digress). Anyway, the city of San Diego grew up around the airport, so it's now a hair-raising experience landing here. I've tried many times to get a decent shot. But timing is everything.

Great shot mate! Love the dramatic angle makes it looks like it's crashing to it! And the arrow shape signage added interesting, ness!

this is one of the hongkong most beautifull sight (even though i first knew it from the ghost in the shell OVA)... but not in my country could match this sight (sight of the airplane landing)... love this so much.
