The next-generation of weather satellites, Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R), will improve weather forecasting quality and timeliness generating significant economic benefits to the nation in the areas of climate monitoring, ecosystems management, commerce and transportation. GOES-R launched November 19, 2016 followed by GOES-S on March 1, 2018.
