Blue Brick House
While we didn't build this house, brick houses like this one are the goal of the Habitat Partnership in Bawana. A brick house will stay up in an earthquake. It won't burn down in the massive fires that sometimes sweep the area. And it has a front door! A front door means the wife can leave and get a job! Not only is this incredible empowerment for women, it gives the family 2 incomes, which means better food, better clothes, better sanitation, the ability to go to school--things that change the life of a child (or 5 children, as most families have at least 5). And a brick house gives the family the sense that they are living in a real house--they can be proud of themselves, have a little dignity and safety--they can feel as human as all of us deserve to feel. Just what some simple brick and mortar can do for so many.
