Smiling 1850s Lady

A late 1850s uncased 1/4 plate British ambrotype - apparently it was found behind a chimney during an estate clearance, and has a vase-like pattern imprinted into the emulsion on the back which I presume came from the tiles that it was wedged against.

The other noteworthy thing about this image is of course that unusually large smile on this unidentified lady (who reminds me a fair bit of Mary Ann Evans (George Eliot)).
