Young Women from Allentown
Photographer J. Jeanes created a rather crowded composition for this CDV of a group of young women, taken in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the late 1860s. It is possible that these are students from Cedar Crest College, a liberal arts college for women which was established in that city in 1867, which might explain the apparently bookish pose of some of the girls. However, there seems to be no other information either in or on the photo which could shed further light on this group.
It is also interesting to note that Jeanes is the first photographer I've seen who places a time limit on the availability of further copies.
