      I think that's a Fox Squirrel, in one of the classic squirrel poses.

      I'm not aware of Fox Squirrels (Sciurus niger) on the west coast. This picture was taken in San Jose, California. If you know that is a Fox squirrel for sure please let me know.

      Fox Squirrels have been introduced into urban areas of California. It looks a lot like a Fox Squirrel -- the size, the shape, the color, the bushy tail, and the fact that it is sitting out in the open on the ground eating.
