These are the voting "booths." At one time, a booth was actually a manually operated machine with a lever for closing the curtain before voting and then pushing the lever back to open the curtain, reset the machine and and count the votes. Now we fill in bubbles next to the candidate we want to vote for, then it is fed into a scanner. At least here we have a paper trail (for whatever that's worth - see also, Diebold).
